[awh-stra-nuh-nee]

n. encouraging people to see common things as strange, wild, or unfamiliar;  defamiliarizing what is known in order to know it differently or more deeply

We see something and just assume that it has only one purpose. Our perspectives are usually limited, therfore we only ever experience a limited part of the vast world. Even the most simplest of objects could have a more profound meaning, if only we remember to view things with an open mind.
